This week has been eventful for the RSAE and CISabroad Italy staff members with the arrival of several student groups. In the days prior to the students’ arrival, the staff has been diligently working on confirming reservations, organizing airport pick-ups, scheduling tours, and coordinating events with the professors on site. We currently have four groups on site: CISabroad Towson University CFLP, CISabroad Valparaiso University CFLP, CISabroad University of Alabama CFLP, and CISabroad Grand Tour. In addition to all the students and interns arriving in Rome this week, CISabroad also received students in Perugia making this week one of the busiest of the year . The most recent group on site was the CISabroad Grand Tour, who just arrived on Saturday. From airport pick-ups to housing orientations, Saturday was definitely a busy day for the RSAE and CISabroad staff members. One of our staff members spent the majority of the day at the Fiumicino Airport receiving students, while I showed them to their apartments after being picked up. Every student I met seemed very excited about their apartment in Trastevere. Most of them mentioned plans of using the kitchen space to arrange a dinner with all the other students and have family meals. Their excitement about the events planned for them in Rome was both gratifying and contagious.
After a long day of running around and making sure all students arrived well, we concluded the day by inviting the students to a welcome dinner at the local restaurant Ai Spaghettari and taking a night walk around Trastevere and Campo De Fiori. After my first experience with student arrivals in Rome, I can say we are more than ready to receive the new interns arriving on June 3rd!
